Feeling Like You Need A Style Refresh, But Not Ready to Commit to Fall Yet?
Not going to lie - I’ve always loved my fall wardrobe more than my spring/summer one. Even though I spend much of my time in Houston now, there’s nothing quite like slipping into a cozy cashmere or a beautifully cut winter coat. So when September rolls around I’m so ready to switch out closets. But when it’s still warm out (or downright hot), what’s a girl to do when our summer clothes don’t feel right, yet fall layers are too much?
Start with a seasonal wardrobe review. September is the perfect time to edit: move out what no longer serves you - or what’s seen better days - and assess your needs. People are shopping earlier now, with stores ordering less after COVID, so the best and cutest pieces disappear fast. But if you know what you want and need, you can buy it as you see it - before the weather actually turns cold and it’s gone!
Think fall/winter colors in tran-seasonal fabrics. Midnight blue, merlot, chocolate brown, rich greens, camel, winter white, and grey instantly create an autumn mood. And there are already so many great pieces out there now - from t-shirts to dresses - to give you a fall look without the weight.
Pair knee boots with dresses and skirts. One of my favorite tricks - as long as it’s under 80 degrees - is wearing my lighter weight dresses with tall boots for an instant fall vibe.
Add a blazer. A plaid, houndstooth, tweed, or even a solid in a light weight fabric goes a long way in transitioning your wardrobe. Look for styles with ruched or cuffed sleeves for a casual chic vibe. Designers like Veronica Beard, Cinq à Sept and Kobi Halperin have fabulous options in stores now. Toss one over a sheath dress, or keep it cool with jeans, a t-shirt, and loafers for an easy wardrobe update.
Fall style is all about easing into the season - no heavy layers required, just thoughtful tweaks that keep you feeling chic and comfortable.
